Race Report 4/20/08
ACT Tour – Lee USA Speedway

For the first time since the Fall of 2006, PBJ Motorsports attempted to qualify for an ACT Race. With a total of more than 50 Late Models registered to attempt to qualify for the 30 car field, the #19 crew entered with a primary goal of making the race.

After a test session Saturday, BJ commented, "I really have high hopes for tomorrow’s race, I think that we will definitely have a competitive car, and as long as we come together as a team, we should be okay to make the race."

After Sunday’s heat race, Piekarski's words changed quite a bit. They tried a new setup for the heat race on Sunday, and Piekarski 8th place start ended with a 10th place finish, which would set him up to start the consolation race in the 11th position, in which only the top 4 finishes would advance to the Feature.

The #19 Hot-Laps Karting Center car quickly undid the adjustments that were made to the car, and the car appeared to be on the right track, moving up 4 positions in the Consi, to finish 7th.

The final chance for BJ to make the race was in the B Main Feature, in which he lined up 5th, and they were only to take the top 3. BJ quickly jumped to the inside, and was able to capture the last starting position for the 30 car field.

Before the feature, Piekarski said, " Man...I’m so relieved to make the race. I was starting to think that for the first time in my career, I was going to fail to make an ACT Tour race. The races are probably some of the most difficult races to qualify for in the country, and to make 20 straight races...is just unbelievable."

Piekarski took the green flag in the 27th position, and quickly made his way up to the 21st position by lap 8. Around lap 20, the #19 car quickly faded, as the car began to become so loose Piekarski was doing all he could to hang onto the car. After a long 100 laps, Piekarski, was only able to limp home in a 22nd place finish.

From the driver:
" I would like to send out a special thanks to my spotter, Mike Rancourt, who did an amazing job out there today, and is one of the main reasons we made this race, as well as to my dad, "crew chief", Mark, and Dave Helliwell who helped tremendously over the weekend. Other Thanks would like to go out to Chris Stanhope, and Chase Piekarski who were also on hand to crew for the PBJ Motorsports Team.
