Piekarski Gets Career Best 3rd Place ACT Tour Finish at Seekonk
Nashua’s Brenton Piekarski returned to late model racing on the ACT Tour at the Seekonk (MA) Speedway this past Saturday evening. After finishing third in his qualifying heat race, Piekarski was placed 16th on the starting grid for the Bay State 100. After a charge from the back of the pack, Piekarski finished the 100-lap event with a career best third place.

"The car was good right off of the trailer," said Piekarski.

"Wayne Helliwell and the entire PBJ Motorsports team gave me a very competitive car and I was able to put it almost anywhere," continued Piekarski.

Piekarski and the PBJ Motorpsorts team are no strangers to the Seekonk Speedway. They ran a full season in the Baby Grand StockCars before fielding a late model there. It is perhaps this experience that produced the highlight of the race for the 2004 ACT Rookie of the Year.

"This is one of my favorite tracks to come too," expressed Piekarski.

"There is a comfort level here and I think that provided for a great show for the Seekonk fans," continued Piekarski.

Piekarski referring to the show that he had racing AJ Begin and others in side-by-side action for almost forty laps as they made their way to the front of the field. Almost every pass made by Piekarski was in the outside groove.

The one pass that Piekarski couldn’t complete was the one for the lead. A restart following a caution on lap 85 put Piekarski on the outside of eventual race winner Brent Dragon. Piekarksi tried to stay with Dragon on the outside, but came up short and Jean Paul-Cyr made his run under Piekarski on the low side.

"I am very happy with our finish tonight," said an excited Piekarski.

"The win would have been awesome, but after the hard racing earlier on, I didn’t have much left for tires and the power steering went about 50 laps into the race so not only were the tires tired, but so was the driver. But there are no excuses in racing and we are happy to leave here with that finish. Brent and Jean are great competitors and I am glad that I was able to put the car in contention for the win," said a worn out Piekarski.

The PBJ Motorsports team has been doing some moonlighting at an old stomping ground in recent weeks. Brenton has been competing on free weekends at the Sugar Hill Speedway in Weare, NH. In six events, Piekarski has captured four wins in the Box Stock Heavy division. Piekarski will compete at Sugar Hill this Sunday. Brenton’s Dad Mark has also been competing in the Box Stock Road Course kart division.

The team is reviewing the ACT Tour schedule and will likely return to action for the big September show at the Lee USA Speedway on September 25th.
