Nashua’s Piekarski Captures ACT Tour Rookie of the Year Honors
Nashua, NH – Entering the 2004-racing season, Nashua’s Brenton "B.J." Piekarski and the PBJ Motorsports team had a couple of small goals. The first goal was to compete on the ACT Tour for late model stock cars and make the field in each of the 14 races. The second goal was to capture the Rookie of the Year title.

The final race of the season was held at the famed Thunder Road Speedbowl in Barre, Vermont on October 3rd. This is the same location where Piekarski kicked off the tour on May 2nd. Piekarski had mixed feelings about ending the season at Thunder Road. It is a tough place to qualify for the main event and he had mixed results in two outings prior to the season finale.

In May, Piekarski qualified for the season opener, but mechanical problems resulted in a 24th place finish. On Memorial Day weekend, Piekarski returned to Thunder Road and had a much-improved 11th place finish.

To clinch the Rookie of the Year title on the autumn weekend in October, Piekarski just needed to make the field and finish in the top 20 to hold off his nearest rookie challenger Dan Colby of Lyman, NH. Piekarski and Colby made the show, but both had disappointing outings with a 23rd and 26th place finish, respectively. Though his season finished much the way it had started back in May, Piekarski and the PBJ Motorsports team was very happy.

"We met the goals we set at the beginning of the season against some very fierce competition," said Piekarski. "I qualified for every race and had some solid finishes."

Piekarski earned enough points to capture the Rookie of the Year honors.

"I guess that achievement is the shining point of our season," said Piekarski. "The whole team worked hard to give me a car that could run in the top five the entire season. We made the races and we gained a lot of valuable experience through seat time that we can carry into the 2005 season."

The PBJ Motorsports team has announced that they will return to the ACT Tour next year.

The Toyota of Nashua/Collision Centers of New Hampshire Late Model team will look to improve on their finishes at each track visited in 2004. Though the goals have not yet been set, a win on the ACT Tour would be a crowning moment, but after getting their first top ten finish in 2004, the more realistic goal will be to have consistent finishes and chalk up a few top fives.
