Piekarski Scores First ACT Top Ten Finish at Seekonk Speedway
Nashua, NH – BJ Piekarski of Nashua is a rookie on the American Canadian Tour for late model stock car racing. As a rookie, he has made the field in every race this season. On a number of occasions, Piekarski has been competing for solid top five and top ten positions only to have bad luck strike before the checkers fly. This past Saturday evening at the Seekonk Speedway in Seekonk, Massachusetts, the twenty-year old Southern New Hampshire University student finished ninth in a field of 30 competitors.

When the PBJ Motorsports team arrived at the track, the car felt good in practice but as has been the case for much of the season, Piekarski drew a poor starting position for his qualifying heat. He started 10th on the grid for the heat race and managed to only pick up three spots before the race ended. It was on to the ‘B’ Main race with a sixth place starting position. When the green flew, Piekarski did battle with Jamien Deschenes of Rindge, NH and dropped to eighth position when the caution flew for an incident on the track. On the restart, Piekarski was able to make his Toyota of Nashua/Collision Centers of New Hampshire Late Model stick and quickly charge to the wire with a second place finish. The finish advanced Piekarski to the ‘A’ Main feature event.

Piekarski started the feature on the outside of the front row in the second position. Unable to make the car stick in the outside groove, Piekarski dropped to the eighth position before dropping the car to the preferred inside track. The first of many cautions flew as Piekarski just missed a 3-car wreck amongst the leaders. On the ensuing restart, Piekarski wasn’t so lucky as he and second place points man Patrick Laperle tangled. This sent both cars to the rear of the pack with Piekarski refiring in 25th.

The roller coaster ride for Piekarski was just beginning as he followed Laperle back through the pack and reached 17th position when another incident on the track caused everyone to check up. Piekarski made contact with a car in front of him causing the hood to obstruct his sight line. Unable to pit since the race remained green, Piekarski rode it out until another caution flew. A quick pit stop to remove the hood and Piekarski was back on track refiring from 22nd.

Laps were winding down quickly and Piekarski still had a mountain to climb if he had any chance at a top ten finish. By lap 85, Piekarski worked his way back to the 13th position as the caution flew. On the restart, he grabbed two more spots and was running 11th. The pack stayed bunched together as the final caution flew on lap 90. A solid restart, put the #19 car of Piekarski in the right position to pick up two more positions moving him to ninth as the checkers flew.

"It feels real good to finally get the top ten finish," said Piekarski.

"We worked for it today. This is one of my favorite tracks and I’d like to think we had something for the leaders if we hadn’t had some of the problems we faced today," continued Piekarski.

"This is a confidence booster for the entire PBJ Motorsports team. We’ll carry the momentum with us to White Mountain," expressed Piekarski.

The top ten finish keeps Piekarski at the front of the ACT Rookie of the Year standings, ahead of Dan Colby of Lyman, NH.

The next race for the PBJ Motorsports team is Saturday evening at the White Mountain Motorsports Park in North Woodstock, NH. For more information about the team, log on to www.pbjmotorsports.com.
