Piekarski Charges to 12th Despite Brake Problem in Sonny Fleury Memorial 100
NASHUA, NH – The rescheduled Sonny Fleury Memorial 100 ACT Tour race is now in the history books after the clouds cleared at Twin State Speedway in Claremont, NH this past Saturday evening. Nashua’s B.J. Piekarski started the deepest in the field that he has since entering the tour as a Rookie this season. Starting 24th in the grid, Piekarski had his work cut out for him as the green flag flew on the 100-lap main event.

A number of cautions plagued the early going of the race. To the advantage of the PBJ Motorsports team, they were able to use the caution laps to make adjustments on the ill-handling car. After making adjustments to the point where the car was "driveable", Piekarksi started to work his way through traffic on the way to the front.

Despite having a tremendous push in the car and brake problems for more than half of the race, Piekarski managed to move the Toyota of Nashua/Collision Centers of NH Late Model into the top 10 with just 10 laps to go.

Persistence and patience appeared to be working in the young driver’s favor, but a late race caution would cost Piekarski a couple of positions come the end of the race. With ten laps remaining, the caution flew once again. On the ensuing restart, Piekarksi had to refire the Merchants Rent-A-Car #19 in the outside groove. Unless the car is perfect at Twin State Speedway, the outside groove is never a good place to be. Piekarksi managed to work his way to the preferred groove before the checkers flew, but not before losing two positions.

Once again, Piekarski’s 12th place finish was enough to make him the top-finishing Rookie. Piekarski is currently leading the Rookie of the Year points race on the ACT Tour and is within striking distance of the top 10 in championship points.

"We are making the races and we are having consistent finishes," said Piekarksi. "We are continually improving on our program and I am starting to feel comfortable competing with the veteran field at each event," continued Piekarski.

Three races into the ACT Tour, Piekarksi returns to the familiar Thunder Road Speedbowl for race four.

"I learned a lot during our last visit to Thunder Road," said Piekarksi. "If the race goes off like our first visit of the season, I believe we will have another solid performance."
