PBJ Motorsports Stepped It Up at Airborne Raceway
Plattsburgh, NY – For the second week in a row, BJ Piekarski had a car that was good off the trailer. The team was happy with the Toyota of Nashua/Collision Centers of New Hampshire Late Model during practice runs and qualified for the Ehler's RV 29th Spring Green 100 at Airborne Raceway in the fourth starting position.

After making the tow from Nashua, NH to Plattsburgh, NY, the team rolled off for practice and needed to make just small chassis adjustments to get the Merchants Rent-A-Car Monte Carlo dialed in for the qualify heat race. Piekarski started third in his heat race and held his own throughout the qualifying effort; finishing in fourth place.

The qualifying effort was good enough to put Piekarski on the outside of row two to take the green in the second event of the 2004 American-Canadian Tour. Unfortunately, starting in the outside line can be a drawback. With the preferred groove on the inside of the track, Piekarski had now where to go, but back before he could settle in line in fifteenth position by lap 20. The caution flew around the same time that Piekarski was able to get to the inside groove.

When the field refired, Piekarski had the daunting task of working his way back to the front. Over the next forty laps, Piekarski picked off cars one-by-one, eventually nestling a running spot in 6th place. Piekarski was looking at a solid top ten finish when the caution flew once again.

On the ensuing restart, Piekarski received a bit of a nudge, which sent the car around and to the rear of the lead lap cars. The challenge was now at hand to charge back to the front of the field. The field tried on a number of restarts to jumpstart the race, but again it didn’t happen and Piekarski ended up with nowhere to go with the cars of Phil Scott and Fred LaGoy tangling in front of him. Heavy damage to the front of the car would have ended Piekarski’s day if the race were to resume.

Rain moved into the Plattsburgh area and the race was called with 66 laps in the books, enough to make the race official. Piekarski managed to salvage a 13th place finish after an outing the team has proclaimed a successful run.

"We could have had a top five finish today," said BJ Piekarski. "I was being patient throughout the race, the car was good, but it just became a wreckfest when it looked like the rain was coming. Unfortunately, we got caught up in one of those wrecks," continued Piekarski.

PBJ Motorsports will travel to Twin State Speedway in Claremont, NH this Saturday, May 15th for the Sonny Fleury Memorial 100. The team tested at Twin State a few weeks ago and is very optimistic with their chances at the Thrasher Road speedplant.
