PBJ Motorsports Making Progress in NASCAR Late Model
Nashua, NH – Being a rookie in NASCAR’s most competitive division on the short track level can be a daunting task even for the experienced team moving up through the ranks. Since the beginning of the season, BJ Piekarski of Nashua and the entire PBJ Motorsports team have been hard at work to compete at the front of the Late Model division at the Lee USA Speedway in Lee, NH.

This past Friday night, Piekarski was on track to turn in his best performance when a fellow competitor altered the outcome. Piekarski started third in his qualifying heat race. Five laps into the 10-lap race Piekarski powered his #10 Dupont Performance Finishes/Spies Hecker, Lovering Volvo, Collision Centers of NH, and Enterprise Rent-a-Car Chevy Monte Carlo to the front of the field. Maintaining his position to the checkers, Piekarski won his second heat race of the season.

With the win in the heat race, Piekarski was designated to start in the fourth position for the Late Model feature. Once the green flag flew, Piekarski quickly moved to third position and by lap three into second. The car was hooked up and on the following lap Piekarski moved into the lead. Piekarski led for 14 more laps with Joey Porciello tagging along in second. The pair had a 1/3 of a track lead over the pack until Porciello tried an aggressive move to get by Piekarski, which took the PBJ entry around and brought out the caution.

After the incident, both cars had to restart from the rear of the pack. Piekarski restarted in 13th and quickly cracked the top ten again as he tried to make his way back to the front. On lap 21, the big wreck happened when Porciello spun off turn four and collected many competitors. Piekarski was able to squeak through this pileup and refired from 7th position on the next restart.

Two laps later, Piekarski was looking to make a move for sixth when the field checked up in front of him and the #19 of Bob Webber Jr. got into the back of Piekarski. Just a racing accident, but it did require the PBJ Motorsports team to bring the car in for a right front tire going down. The team lost two laps in the pits and just cruised along until the 40-lap event concluded. The fifteenth finishing position is not reflective of the finish that could have been.

The PBJ Motorsports team is showing that they can compete at the front of the pack and the performance at the beginning of Friday’s race shows that the team is close to their first win in a NASCAR Late Model.
